Social Reading and Digital Annotation with Perusall
Social reading as a practice far predates the digital age, and includes everything
from monastic marginalia in medieval manuscripts to Victorian book clubs. Today digital
platforms facilitate social reading, such as reviews on goodreads. In the classroom,
specific tools have been created for students to annotate and discuss texts, images,
and video files.
This workshop will feature Perusall, an online annotation software and how it has
been used in both synchronous and asynchronous online classes in multiple disciplines
by Dr. Courtney Luckhardt and Dr. Emily Stanback. We will focus our discussion on
the use of Perusall for social reading, online discussion, and engagement with lecture
videos in all disciplines, including Arts, Humanities, and STEM.
